The Galax Recreation Center provides all of your favorite programs, classes, events, along with many new an exciting programs for the upcoming year. As we move forward in 2025, we will continue to add more new programs and activities for all of our citizens to enjoy. The current programs and activities that are being offered are senior programs, aquatic exercises classes, youth sports, cardio and weight rooms, indoor walking track, swim lessons, water aerobic classes, yoga, senior exercise classes, open gym. A quick reminder of our outdoor facilities that are available include the walking track at Mt. View and Felts Park, tennis courts, Galax Municipal Golf Course, skate park, picnic shelters, and playgrounds.
We hope to continue to make the Galax Recreation Center your destination stop for your fitness and leisure activities. We want the Galax Recreation Department to be a part of you and your family’s daily fitness and leisure routine in 2024 and beyond. If you are new to the area stop by the Galax Recreation Center and take a tour of our facilities and also enjoy a first time visit pass to participate in one of our classes, cardio or weight room for free. In closing, we look forward to you visiting with us at the Galax Recreation Center and enjoying one of our many special events in the park.

Youth Basketball Registration is going on now!
Registration ends next Monday, November 10.
Open for girls and boys ages 5-13.
Registration fee is $30 per player.
Adult Volleyball Registration ends next Monday, November 10.

We have openings for officials in our youth/adult basketball and indoor soccer games. The pay for officiated games is based on the different leagues we offer. If interested contact the Galax Recreation Dept. at 276-236-3218.

Today was our annual Senior program Halloween party.
We had a great turnout of ghosts, goblins, zombies, witches, and etc. Everyone had a great time enjoying food, music, fellowship, costume contest, door prizes, and a scary Halloween skit from the staff of the Galax Recreation Center.
We would like to say a big Thank You to the staff of Access home Health, Sandy Steffy 1 to 1 advisor of insurance for volunteering and providing prizes to help make the party a success.
And to senior program director Mary Ellen Testerman for organizing a fun program for our local seniors. Also, the Galax Parks and Recreation center staff for their participation in todays skit.

The afterschool program children are getting active with community service. They are doing a drive of donated cans of green beans for God's Storehouse Thanksgiving boxes to help feed our community. The goal is to collect 200 cans. If anyone would like to help out they can drop off a can at the Galax Recreation Department between now and Monday November 10th.

Thanks to everyone who came out to Felt's Park Saturday night for the Jeep-O-Ween event from 7-9pm. There was almost 900 young trick or treaters that had a wonderful time getting candy, taking pictures, music, and enjoying the fun atmosphere. Many thanks to the Twin County Jeep club for providing the candy and decorations. Also, to William Bottomley for the music and all the volunteers who helped make this a wonderful event for our community.

Part-Time Employment
We are accepting applications for a gym supervisors. Position will involve working weekdays at 3:30 until closing and occasional weekend days. Children’s Activity Programs
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITY PROGRAM (ASAP) 2025-26
SPACES ARE LIMITED - Be sure to register now to secure your kids spot in the program for next fall.
The Galax Parks and Recreation Department’s After School Activity Program offers quality supervision for children who attend Galax City Schools in grades K through 5. The program provides after school pick up until 5:30 pm, a snack, recreational games and activities, crafts and homework assistance. The program operates Monday through Friday except when Galax City Schools are closed for holidays, workdays, and inclement weather. If the school closes before noon for inclement weather, the program will not operate. We do operate for any closing at noon or after.
Weekly Rates:
$50.00 per child $90.00 for two children in the same household
$130.00 for three children in the same household

Skate Park
The downtown skate park is located at the corner of Bartlett and Main Street, beside Standard Auto Parts.
This facility offers several different ramps, jumps bars, and boxes.
Hours of Operation
Galax Recreation Center’s operating hours are established to best serve the needs of the public. The Recreation Center will be closed on weekends that community events are scheduled in Felts’ Park. Children under age 11 must be accompanied by an adult at all times while using the Galax Recreation Center, Indoor/Outdoor Pool, etc. unless they are participating in a Galax Parks and Recreation Department program or activity (example: swimming lessons, youth basketball practice, swim team, etc.)
