The Galax Parks and Recreation Department staff and I would like to say thank you for all your support to us over the past several years. We have been able to add many wonderful programs and activities for our citizens to enjoy. We have added new outdoor pickleball and outdoor basketball courts for everyone to enjoy. Our senior and youth programs also have grown in participation during the past few years. As you look through our 2026 brochure, we hope you will find several programs that you can participate with us in the coming year. If you are a senior looking to make new friends or join a program or group you will find senior dining/shopping trips, parties, instructional classes, game days, and exercise classes. We also offer many clubs that include mahjong, book and coloring clubs. Our senior program has something to offer everyone. Our youth programs offer multiple sports from sandlot football, flag football, cheerleading, soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, T-ball, coach pitch, futsal, tennis, fun runs, kids obstacle race, summer sports camps, etc. For adults we have basketball leagues, volleyball, a 9-hole golf course, morning/evening water exercise classes, lap swim, cardio and weight rooms, indoor and outdoor walking tracks, 5k/10k running races. Our community events include the Annual Fiddler’s Convention, High Country Christmas light show, Fireman’s Carnival, Championship Rodeo, Jeep club events, Praising in the Park etc. We encourage you to come and take a tour of the Galax Recreation Center and use our cardio and weight rooms free of charge on your first visit. Our annual Senior Spa Day was held today. 25 ladies were treated to a day of pampering. Thank you to the Cosmetology class from Grayson County High school for providing manicures, hair styling and facials. We also appreciate Tess Caldwell doing Mary Kay makeup for the ladies. Thank you to Haley Worrell from It Is Well Massage for doing massages and Sandy Steffy from Zen Glow Head Spa for providing scalp massages.

We wrapped up our Spring 2026 Wii Bowling League this week. 4th place went to Charlotte Gillespie, 3rd place was Pat Mahon, 2nd place was Louise Robins and 1st place went to Betty Simmons.

If you are looking to try something new or looking for some fun activities do do outdoors we have pickleball courts, outdoor basketball courts, kids playground, small soccer fields, and tennis courts located in Felt's Park. We also have picnic shelters at both Felt's Park and Mt. View Park. You can reserve the shelter by calling 276-236-3218. We encourage you to come out an enjoy our facilities.
Our skate park that is open at the corner of Main and Bartlett St. As we get to the end of May we will announce the opening date of our outdoor pool. We offer a summer swim team for all kids to participate in. You can register now for the summer swim team at the Galax Recreation Center.
Don't forget about our summer activity program for kids ages 6-12 we are currently taking registration now with a few spots still available stop by and register your child so they don't miss out on all the fun and exciting activities our summer staff has planned for the kids this summer.

Spring is here time to work on those fitness goals you have for the year. We encourage everyone to come to our parks and walk or run and enjoy the sunny weather. We have two walking trails for everyone that are available for use. Mt. View Park has a .4 mile paved trail and Felt's Park has a .6 mile paved trail. If it is raining we have the 1/16th mile indoor rubber walking track at the Galax Recreation Center that is free to the public to use.

equipment. Supervises full and part time parks and recreation facilities maintenance employees. Assigns work,
provides direction and ensures adherence to safety procedures and Department standards. Sets up equipment and
arranges furniture, materials and other logistical items in preparation of scheduled events and/or recreational
activities. Performs a variety of preventive maintenance and repair work on Department equipment, facilities,
playing fields and grounds. Work involves light equipment and hand and power tools to perform maintenance, repair
and replacement work. Reports to the Director of Parks and Recreation.

The school year will be ending soon and summer will be here.
We still have a few spots left for our Summer Activity Program be sure to come by and register you child ages (6-12) to take part in our summer of fun activities. Our Senior Dining trip today was to Sal's in Radford. Seniors enjoyed pizza, pasta, sandwiches and dessert. Everyone left full and happy!

Part-Time Employment
We are accepting applications for part time recreation aide. Position will involve working on soccer, football, baseball and softball fields, general park and facility maintenance, mowing, recreation program set up and etc. starting March. Hours are mornings through afternoon weekdays with occasional Saturday during the summer.

Children’s Activity Programs
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITY PROGRAM (ASAP) 2025-26
SPACES ARE LIMITED - Be sure to register now to secure your kids spot in the program for next fall.
The Galax Parks and Recreation Department’s After School Activity Program offers quality supervision for children who attend Galax City Schools in grades K through 5. The program provides after school pick up until 5:30 pm, a snack, recreational games and activities, crafts and homework assistance. The program operates Monday through Friday except when Galax City Schools are closed for holidays, workdays, and inclement weather. If the school closes before noon for inclement weather, the program will not operate. We do operate for any closing at noon or after.
Weekly Rates:
$50.00 per child $90.00 for two children in the same household
$130.00 for three children in the same household

The downtown skate park is located at the corner of Bartlett and Main Street, beside Standard Auto Parts.
This facility offers several different ramps, jumps bars, and boxes.
Hours of Operation
Galax Recreation Center’s operating hours are established to best serve the needs of the public. The Recreation Center will be closed on weekends that community events are scheduled in Felts’ Park. Children under age 11 must be accompanied by an adult at all times while using the Galax Recreation Center, Indoor/Outdoor Pool, etc. unless they are participating in a Galax Parks and Recreation Department program or activity (example: swimming lessons, youth basketball practice, swim team, etc.)
